A Leez Priory wedding was what Lisa and Craig planned and what a good choice it was. Leez Priory is a 16th century mansion near to Chelmsford in Essex, and in 1995 it became the first country house in England to be granted a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies.
The sun was shining when I arrived and what a relief that was as they planned to hold their wedding outdoors, and in England during the summer that is taking a big risk, but not on this occasion as the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed a day of sunshine and fun, including having their first dance on the lawn in brilliant sunshine.
Following their outdoor ceremony their wedding breakfast was served in the Great Hall, and then it was back outdoors for lawn games, including croquet and giant draughts.
A wedding at Leez Priory is like taking a step back in time when you see the magnificent buildings, and the well kept grounds are a joy to explore.
